Does empathy play a role in psychodynamic therapy? My ex therapist seemed to attribute my need for empathy (or my complaints to the lack of it in our interactions) as my transference rather than a basic human need. Is this view the norm?

Probably just a very vivid imagination? Can't sleep because I see things I know my brain made and realize nothing is there but it really messes with my mental health, makes me feel super paranoid. Sleeping meds don't work.should I see a therapist?
