How do people with dissociative identity disorder know when their other personalities are out of control? How can they tell what is real and what isn't anymore?

I have a dissociative disorder. It can get complicated at times but I manage. I feel like I have disabilities and superpowers that normal people are unaware of. Are there others who feel similarly? How do your disabilities and superpowers affect your relationships with others? What do you do to improve your relationships with others?

Many therapists have said they can tell when someone is dissociating and have stated there are signs it's happening. If that's truely the case, and it appears obvious to you… what's your theory about how it could take 8 years and 3 misdiagnosises before a therapist recognizes the classic symptoms of DID?
