Joe Biden met his wife, Jill Biden (née Jacobs), in 1975. At the time, Joe Biden was a widower, as his first wife, Neilia, and their young daughter, Naomi, had tragically died in a car accident in 1972. Joe was a United States Senator from Delaware when he met Jill.

The story goes that Joe's brother, Frank, was aware that Joe needed some emotional support after the devastating loss of his first wife and had seen Jill in a local advertisement. Frank suggested to Joe that he should reach out to her. Jill was working as a teacher at the time and was also going through a divorce.

Finally, in March 1975, Joe Biden called her and asked her out on a date. Their first date was at the Philadelphia Art Museum. The couple hit it off, and their relationship developed quickly. They got married on June 17, 1977.

Jill Biden has been a strong support to Joe throughout his political career, and she continued to teach during his vice presidency and after he became the President of the United States in 2021. Jill Biden is the first First Lady in U.S. history to hold a paying job while her husband is in office, maintaining her career as an educator and professor at a community college.
