The "Se grip" is a concept within the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality system. It refers to a state in which individuals with a dominant introverted thinking (Ti) and auxiliary extraverted intuition (Ne) function, such as the INTJ, experience heightened stress or uncertainty, leading them to display negative behaviors associated with their inferior function, extraverted sensing (Se).
When an INTJ is in the Se grip, they may exhibit the following behaviors:
Overindulgence in sensory experiences: INTJs might become excessively focused on sensory pleasures like food, entertainment, or other sensory experiences as a way to escape stress or uncertainty.
Impulsive decision-making: Normally thoughtful and strategic, an INTJ in the grip of Se may make hasty and impulsive decisions without thoroughly considering the consequences.
Feeling overwhelmed by the present moment: INTJs usually thrive on planning and foresight, but during the Se grip, they may feel overwhelmed by the current situation and have difficulty seeing the bigger picture.
Irrational risk-taking: Under stress, INTJs might engage in reckless behavior or take risks without considering the potential negative outcomes.
Obsessive perfectionism: In an attempt to gain control over their environment, an INTJ in the Se grip may become fixated on minor details, trying to achieve perfection in their projects or tasks.
Feeling disconnected from their usual self: The INTJ may feel detached from their usual focused and analytical self, finding it challenging to tap into their strengths.
Neglecting long-term goals: As they struggle to cope with stress, INTJs may lose sight of their long-term plans and become more reactive to immediate demands.
It's important to remember that the Se grip is a temporary and unhealthy state for INTJs. It can be triggered by prolonged stress, major life changes, or feeling overwhelmed by unexpected challenges. During this period, INTJs might need to step back, practice self-care, and seek support to regain their balance and return to their natural, healthier functioning state.
